Welcome back Future Stars!

In our previous lesson (lesson1) we did a basic introduction on ‘Football’. In this 4 part
lesson we will be touching on some football history. We’ll talk about the origins of football
by summarising the most important facts and we’ll also look at some notable events that
have affected todays modern game.

Let’s dive right in.

The history of football can be traced all the way back to 3000 years ago. Records show that the Mesoamerican cultures
from 3000 years ago called the Tchatali by the Aztecs would gather in a team to play with a ball that was made from a rock.
The Mesoamerican culture was not the only one that had a ball game, however, since they were the only culture with access
to rubber their ball game was most unique from the rest of the ball games in and around the region.

Around 3rd & 2nd Century BC located in China was a football game played on a square surface named Cuju. Cuju used a round ball that was stitched together with leather and had fur or feathers inside.

There are records of various football games from the past from the greek nation, Italian nation as well as the Australian nation but it is important to note that the modern football game came about in England around the 12th century. Modern football in its early days was a harsh and violent game with little regulations in those days. In the upcoming lessons we’ll discus how football led to rugby and how violence in football contributed to the breeding of the modern Brazilian footballer.

Thats all for this lesson. Keep popping in, subscribe to our newsletter or send us an email if you’d like to stay update with our footballing lessons

At Future Football Stars, the main aim is to develop the technical, physical and psychological ability of child in a football orientated environment. Therefore, each training session comprises of elements that stimulate all three of these aspects simultaneously so that not only do our players become masters of the ball but also effective and efficient team players.

Basic structure of a session: 1 hour

Warm up

In the warm up we aim to gradually increase the heart rate of the players to prepare them for intense physical activity as well as a loosening of the joints and activation of the muscles required for a football game.

Technical & Psychological drill

In these drills we will introduce a technical element e.g. passing with the added requirement that the player would have to select where the pass goes but also the power and accuracy required to make the pass. In doing so we facilitate a space for learning and gaining mental pictures that will help in a match setting.

Technical & Tactical drill

Once the psychological element of a player has been activated, we aim to put them in match specific situations whereby what has been learnt on a technical level in the previous drill can be applied by them in a match situation. This involves a lot of group play with different odds e.g. 3 v 3 or 5 v 4 etc. Moreover this provides an ideal setting to enhance communication skills required for a high functioning and cohesive team.

Small Sided Games

The kids will have the opportunity to incorporate the skills learnt throughout the session in an even numbered small sided game situation which mimics a match scenario. This allows the players to express their capabilities in terms of the overall requirements of a football match as well as the chosen technical requirement of the day. Moreover it allows the coaching personnel to further assess the strengths and weaknesses of an individual and the group.

Cool down & Fun activity

An activity focused at lowering the heart rate and stretching activated muscles occurs to close off the session. In addition, a fun psychological activity to stimulate the brain which is crucial in a match with a tiring body as well as building a camaraderie in a group setting to ensure of kids are not only well adjusted on the football field but in society as well.
